In today's soccer world, the Uruguayan Football Federation (FUF) has come up with a big news: former outstanding player Diego Alonso, a 46-year old soccer veteran, has taken up the mission to pass on the wisdom of Tavares' soccer and has been appointed as the coach of Uruguay's national team.

Diego Alonso's career as a player has taken him all over La Liga, to Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Atlético Santander, Málaga, etc. In 2007, he traveled across the ocean to join Shanghai Shenhua, but was unable to create the legendary Uruguayan trident with his teammates Correa and Blanco. Nevertheless, he contributed 7 goals and 1 assist to Shenhua that season.

Diego Alonso did not stop after his retirement, and in 2011 he officially launched his coaching career. Initially, his coaching experience was mainly in Paraguay and Mexico. from 2017 to 2019, he took Mexican teams Pachuca and Monterrey to the top of the Central North American Regional Champions League. in 2019, he even became the first foreign head coach on the world stage at USL club Miami, where he finished his coaching career earlier this year.
