On December 1, Spain's Mundo Deportivo broke the heavy news that on Tuesday, Beijing Guoan announced that Bakambu will soon bid farewell to the team, while Barcelona had been eyeing the La Liga star.

Dating back to 2018, Bakambu moved from Villarreal to Beijing Guoan, for which Guoan paid a whopping €40 million release fee. During his time at Guoan, Bakambu made 87 appearances, scored 58 goals and won an AFC Cup trophy with the team.

Now a free agent, Bakambu, with whom Barcelona had a contract on the horizon in January 2020, ended up opting for Braithwaite instead.

Meanwhile, Beijing Guoan have found a successor to Bakambu - Anderson Silva. It is worth noting that Beijing Guoan is not the only team in the Chinese Super League in financial trouble, with current manager Bilic.
