AC Milan's star goalkeeper Donnarumma has rejected an offer to extend his contract and will leave the club as a free agent this summer, with Juventus likely to be his next stop. In order to "strike back" at their rivals, Milan fans have half-jokingly suggested signing Buffon, a young goalkeeper whose contract is also due to expire, although it is just a joke, but it also highlights that the former Italian international goalkeeper is still a treasure.

Since returning to Juventus, Buffon has recorded more than ten appearances in each season, and despite being 43 years old, the Italian veteran remains defiant and unwilling to be relegated to the bench, making transfer rumors this summer inevitable.

According to the latest media reports, Portuguese Premier League rivals Benfica are actively considering bringing in the legendary Italian goalkeeper and are willing to fulfill all his conditions.

Currently, Benfica's starting goalkeeping position is shared by 27-year-old Greek international goalkeeper Vlachodimos and 30-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper Helton Wright, both of whom have made 26 appearances in all competitions this season. If Buffon is able to join the team, he will undoubtedly become the team's main goalkeeper.

For the Portuguese Premier League, having just sent away former Real Madrid legend Casillas (now retired) last year, it would undoubtedly attract global attention again if they could welcome Gianluigi Buffon this year.

Currently, Buffon's annual salary at Juventus is €1.5 million, which is not a heavy burden for Benfica. In addition, Greece's Olympiacos and La Liga's Sevilla are also interested in bringing in the Italian goalkeeper.
