Despite Real Madrid's granularity over the course of the season, fans were rewarded with unexpected joy today - Croatian international Modric confirmed a contract extension to continue playing at Real Madrid for another year.

Since joining in 2012 for a transfer fee of €35 million, Modric, 35, has given 11 seasons of great performances for Real Madrid.

Known as the model of "the older, the more demonic", Modric has made 48 appearances in all competitions this season, a figure second only to his first two seasons at Real Madrid, when he was only 26 or 27 years old.

During his time at the Bonaire, Modric collected two La Liga trophies, one Copa del Rey, three Spanish Super Cups, four UEFA Champions League trophies, four Club World Cups, three UEFA Supercups and one World Cup title.

Particularly noteworthy is the fact that in 2018, the Croatian star broke Cairo and Messi's monopoly on the Ballon d'Or to win the award.

After renewing their contract until 2022, Real Madrid managed to retain the iron triangle of the midfield - Modric, Kroos and Casemiro - which undoubtedly adds a strong guarantee for the team to regain the La Liga and Champions League titles in the future.
