On January 7, 2025, Zhang Xiuwei, a former Guangzhou footballer who once rode the green, waved goodbye to his former teammates on his personal social media.

Back on January 6, the Chinese Football Association (CFA) officially released the qualification list for the new season, and Guangzhou unfortunately fell out of the list. Immediately after that, Guangzhou Football Club released a shocking announcement, declaring that it would withdraw from the top league of Chinese soccer, thus bidding farewell to the glorious history of the eight champions of the Chinese Super League and the double champions of the AFC Champions League.

Zhang Xiuwei on Weibo showed a precious photo wearing the Guangzhou team's uniform, as a way to say goodbye to the team. He left a heartfelt message, "The road to climb the peak is silent, goodbye, but I will always cheer for the Guangzhou team!"

Zhang Xiuwei, 28, moved to Guangzhou Evergrande from Tianjin Tianhai in 2019, making over 70 appearances for the team and helping them win one Chinese Super League title. Now, he has moved to Qingdao West Coast to continue showcasing his talents in the midfield.
