Manchester City beat Ipswich 6-0 in the 22nd round of the Premier League, and after the match, Coach Pep Guardiola talked about the win in today's Spotlight and praised the performance of several core players.
Pep Guardiola was thrilled: "It's been a long time coming and it's a great feeling. we've had some good results in the recent past, but this is a much more symbolic victory. the players have recognized their shortcomings and we've been a bit lax in our standards of play, but soccer is not just about winning, it's about enjoying the process of giving it your all. whether it be on the glittering stage in London or in the serene amphitheatre of Sheffield, it's about whether or not we've got the love of the game and the dedication to it that we're all looking for."
Pep Guardiola further emphasized, "Today's players proved everything by showing resilience and solidarity. i hope this will be the starting point for us to regain our confidence and return to the top."
Speaking about Phil Foden's performance, Guardiola admitted: "Phil has really been challenged recently, partly because he and many of his teammates are not yet at their best. take Kevin De Bruyne's excellent performances in the last three games as an example, he's at the top of his game, while the rest of our players haven't yet found that rhythm. in order to be at the best of the team the players need to motivate each other, to compete with one another. but we haven't done enough in this area this season because of the limited depth of the squad, with only 13 to 14 players capable of consistent performances it's difficult for the rest of the squad to provide more support."
Speaking about youngster James McCarty, Guardiola was full of praise: "He's a very talented player and a very likeable person.James has a lot of similarities with Phil in that they both have a lot of potential and are eager to contribute to the team. However, a lack of playing time tends to undermine a player's confidence.I hope that we can keep James, who I'm sure will be a key player for us in the future."
