The team agreed to a significant contract extension that is worth a total of $150.3 million over three years, with the third year being a player option.
Yahoo Sports reporter Vincent Goodwill, citing multiple sources, said Mitchell's contract extension reaches full top dollar level.
ESPN salary expert Bobby Marks disclosed specific contract details that put Mitchell's three-year salary at $46.39 million, $50.1 million and $53.81 million (player option years).
Woj noted that Mitchell opted for this three-year contract instead of a four-year deal so that he could pursue a super-prime contract of more than $380 million in 2027 (after 10 years in the NBA).
Mitchell's willingness to sign a new contract is largely due to his confidence in Cavaliers President of Basketball Operations Altman's vision for building the team, multiple sources have revealed. He believes the Cavaliers will continue to move toward championship contention and is highly aligned with their ongoing partnership.
Mitchell currently has two years left on his contract, a $34.9 million for the 2024-25 season and a $37.1 million player option for the 2025-26 season. The extension will change the salary to $46.39 million for the 2025-26 season.
During the 2023-24 regular season, Mitchell contributed 26.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.8 steals per game. In the playoffs this year, he averaged 29.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
This extension is a significant long-term investment for the Cavaliers, designed to solidify the team's competitiveness and future growth.
