The BBVA crowd was treated to another nonchalant performance from their team last night, entertaining the Athletics in their third home game of the season

The Team. St. Louis came into last night's game in second-to-last place, with one win, five losses, and just three points on the season. On the other hand, the Rayados have won just one of their four league games, not to mention embarrassing themselves on the club two weeks ago. In other words, any result other than a win is unacceptable for Er-...

In the first 20 minutes of the game, Rayados beat St. Louis to a surprising start, grabbing possession and creating three extremely dangerous chances, most notably a wide-open one-on-one with Furness - one-on-one with the keeper - that was deflected wide after Ponchito González perfectly placed the ball in the back of the net. But that was it. With 70 minutes remaining, the Rayados were once again passive, as we've grown accustomed to seeing them in St. Louis, who took full advantage of their inefficiency and burned out on a couple of counterattacks with their overdrive.

In fact, after watching Aguirre's pre-match press conference on Friday, he was exactly what you'd expect him to be, giving cynical response after cynical response to every question about his job security, especially after the performances we've seen in Abu Dhabi and the string of poor results from the beginning of the season since the last appointment. El Vasco seemed out of touch in his press conference, lacking the energy and patience to answer any questions relating to his job or the players' low level of play, let alone results.

Let's be honest. This team has peaked under Aguirre's leadership a couple months ago. Without breaking the QF in the cordon 2021 and dropping out of the top 4 at the end of the orifice 2021, it's barely possible to make the playoffs as a whole as a ninth point, it's not possible to make it past the QF rounds again, the intensity level has deteriorated significantly, and most of the players that were attainable (e.g., Jansen) have ceased to produce. Furness Murray has hit a new low since joining the club. On top of that, the club is still struggling with top-ranked teams like Cuetaro and San Luis, and should have lost the game against Cruz Azul. The high-end cost of this team is completely unacceptable.
