The team and the team meet again in the 2021 opener, a scenario that won't bother, and that's because in their last five title games, they've faced collegians in four of the final stages, all balanced in Coapa's favor.
For the azulcremas, facing the Cougars in Liguillas has always been a real intrigue, as the last three titles put the felines on the road. This Saturday, they will look to do the same in Apertura 2021 to maintain the intrigue and reach the final to lift the cup.

Summer 2002
In order for the Eagles to hoist the trophy with strategist Manuel Lapointe in 2002, they had to get rid of some ferocious Cougars, which made it difficult for them to get the ball into the azulcrema box. They played to a 0-0 tie on the field at Azteca Stadium in the first round, and in the return round at CU, they beat the University students 1-2 on the road.

With O'Muhammad on the bench, the Mexican Pumas had a more complicated quarterfinal, but were able to advance. They fell to their lowest point in CU in the first round, and on a header back from Paolo Goltz, the Pumas eliminated the Cougars once again, later winning the Liga MX title.

The last champions of Mexican America had a special touch in the semifinal against the Pumas as they beat them in that game to keep them on the road. The first leg was 1-1 and the return leg at Azteca Stadium was painted yellow as they were beaten 6-1.
