According to Daily Sport, FC Barcelona are in the process of bringing winger Athletic Bilbao's
Nico Williams.
Listed as one of the high-priority targets for the summer transfer window.
The Spanish media revealed that Williams has become one of Barcelona's main transfer targets. Currently, Barcelona is in close contact with La Liga and is actively promoting the transfer of Williams.
Although Barcelona had previously viewed bringing in a defensive midfielder as a top priority, Williams' impressive performances at Bilbao have led the club to adjust its transfer strategy. Barca's sporting department believes that if a choice has to be made between overpriced reinforcements, bringing in Williams and combining it with a more economical midfielder would be more appropriate than bringing in a top midfielder and an average winger.
Athletic Bilbao are not willing to compromise on the transfer total, but may have some flexibility on how the €58 million release fee is paid. For now, Barcelona's main concern is whether they have enough financial space to complete the deal. The club is optimistic about gaining room to maneuver in the coming weeks.
Barcelona believe that having players such as Lamine, Nico and Rafinha at their disposal at the same time would greatly improve the overall quality of the squad and promote internal competition. Although the club will still need to find a midfielder with defensive ability after the introduction of Williams, the plan is to spend the rest of the summer looking for a midfielder who may join on loan.
However, the addition of Williams could have an impact on Fathi's future. Despite his desire to prove his worth through pre-season training, unless Rafinha leaves the club (which he has no intention of doing at the moment), Fati could once again face a departure. In addition, Felix is also waiting to see if he can join Barcelona for a second season on loan.
