It was a close game. Shafir Borg opened the scoring for Canada in the first half, but then Jonathan Davey missed a good one-two punch to leave Venezuela trailing 0-1 at halftime.
In the second half, Venezuela showed a tenacious fighting spirit, and Long Dongbei's outstanding long-distance shot helped his team equalize the score. The two teams battled to a 1-1 draw in the 90 minutes, and the match went straight to the penalty shootout.
In penalty kicks, Canada narrowly defeated Venezuela, 4-3, to make the overall score 5-4, and successfully eliminated their opponents to advance to the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions League. Canada will face Argentina in the semifinals.
