The match started with both teams actively involved in the game, trying to find a breakthrough. In the 15th minute, Atletico's De Paul broke the deadlock. Taking advantage of the opponent's mistake in clearing a cross, he fired a long shot into the net after hitting the opponent's defender, giving Atletico a 1-0 lead.

The game then went into a stalemate, with both sides going back and forth, but neither side was able to change the score. It wasn't until just before the end of the first half that Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams pushed the ball in front of the goal to equalize the score at 1-1.

At the start of the second half, Atletico stepped up their offense in hopes of taking the lead again. In the 52nd minute, Koke sent an assist to Correa who one-timed his way into the box to put Atletico back in front, 2-1.

However, Athletic Bilbao didn't give up as they continued to try to find opportunities. But in the 80th minute, Lino fired a low shot from the left side of the box and Athletic Bilbao's goalkeeper Unai Simon inadvertently touched the ball into his own goal when he made a save, staging an oopsie to make the score 3-1.

In the ensuing game, both sides had some chances, but neither was able to convert. In the end, Atletico defeated Athletic Bilbao with a score of 3-1.
