The team fell to Uruguay in a penalty shootout and stopped in the last eight. Speculation has arisen about the future of skipper Dorival, however, in an exclusive interview with ESPN, Brazilian Football Federation president Ednaldo Rodrigues made it clear that Dorival will remain as Brazil's head coach to lead the team in the upcoming World Qualifying Tournament matches.
Rodrigues said, "Dorival's work with Brazil is still in its infancy and it would be detrimental to the Brazilian national team to announce a change of manager at this time. The Copa America is a great opportunity for him to get to know the team and the players better."
He went on to emphasize, "Now the team needs to understand each other, we still have a lot of WC matches to face and Dorival and his coaching team have a clear plan."
Despite the difficulties in the Copa America, Rodrigues is confident about the team's future, "We know that this is the beginning of a new phase in Brazilian soccer, we have brought in young players and it will take time to adapt to the pressures of the national team."
The Brazilian team will spend the next few days dispersed back to their respective clubs or in vacation mode in preparation for their September 4 World Qualifying match against Ecuador.
