Contacts were made but rejected by the other side. Nonetheless, the U.S. Soccer Federation still wants Klopp to coach the U.S. national team.
Berhalter was fired on Wednesday after the U.S. team's disastrous elimination from the group stage of the Copa America on home soil. The U.S. Soccer Federation hopes to boost the team's record with the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the U.S., Canada and Mexico, for the U.S., which was eliminated in the 1/8 finals of the 2022 World Cup.
Klopp has now expressed a desire to take some time off, but the U.S. Soccer Federation continues to be in contact with him in hopes of finding a suitable time in the future.
